SMD: Surface mounted diodes (SMD) are a type of LED that surface mounts each individual LED diode to an aluminum substrate. Benefits of SMD are greater brightness and less power consumption than conventional LED types. You will find the greatest lumen output with this type of LED. One potential downside to this form is the light density. Each diode is evenly spaced, which on very low light settings can cause each individual dot of light to become detectable. We alleviate this issue by increasing the LED density to no lower than 128led/m and utilizing a light diffuser between the diodes and the finished space.
COB: Chip on Board (COB) is a type of LED that is in direct contact with a substrate such as silicon carbide or sapphire. It is the latest LED technology offering an assortment of benefits including much higher density of LED array, slightly increased efficiency, and longevity. The main downside to COB is decreased lumen output compared to SMD with similar wattage.
Diffuser: To spread and soften the light cast of each LED diode, all our fixtures will come with a diffuser. Our standard diffuser appearance is an opaque matte finish, providing great results in blending the light cast. Alternatively, we offer a black finish diffuser. Black diffusers slightly decrease the lumen output of the fixture while causing zero color distortion. The main attracting factor for a black diffuser is purely aesthetic.
